There is high corruption and mismanagement of funds at major border points, an assessment by the Anti-corruption Commission in Eastern Equatoria State shows.

The areas include Nimule at the border with Uganda, and Teretenya and Nadapal at the border with Kenya.

The State Anti-corruption Deputy Chairperson says it has discovered that government officials are smuggling vehicles across without clearance.

They include officials from Immigration, National Security, Traffic and Customs departments, according to the report.

Jeremiah Gai says authorities at the border are also not keeping proper record of the revenue collected.

“Some people do not record money in the book of finance so that later on when they give a report, it’s not accurate report,” Mr Gai stated.

Eastern Equatoria State Anti-corruption commission has presented the findings to the governor.

The team has recommended action against the unnamed individuals.
