The leader of the National Democratic Party is calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Sudan, saying the ongoing war has affected the communities along the border.

Speaking at the funeral in Juba on Wednesday Dr. Lam Akol says the ongoing war in the neighbouring country is affecting communities along the border.

The Chairman of the National Democratic Movement, one of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance parties, returned to Juba in July after spending years in Sudan.

In his remarks, Dr Lam says Sudan was a safe place for the community members who fled the 2013 wars.

Dr Lam said although people are collecting money to evacuate the affected community that will not be enough for everybody.

The leader of the National Democratic Party further said solving the problem in Sudan is essential.

He calls on the community to unite and join efforts to bring back their member to their original places

“We are praying to God because Sudan is our neighbour and any bad thing there can reach here too. So, when there is a problem with our neighbour, it is not good because this is a place that we ran to when we had a problem here,” Dr Lam told mourners in Juba

“We are praying so that they [Sudanese] solve their problem. We are not taking sides because whoever wants to solve an issue, shouldn’t take sides. We are praying for a solution to this problem,” he said.

“We are also praying to God to unite us as Chollo so that our people can return to their villages.”
