Deputy Aweil Mayor suspended over corruption allegations

Author : | Published: Tuesday, June 16, 2015

The Deputy Mayor of Aweil Municipality in Northern Bhar al-Ghazal State has been suspended over accusations of mismanagement of public funds.

Mathok Wol’s suspension was issued yesterday through a decree signed by the acting governor, Salva Chol Ayat. Mr Mathok, who was in charge of administration and finance, has rejected the suspension.

He says the suspension is not related to mismanagement of public money.

“The truth is the deputy governor is working with some groups to remove some people whom were working closely with the former governor, Kuel Aguer Kuel,” Mr Wol claimed.

“So those people have groups in parliament and they have another one in the SPLM secretariat and those groups have worked against the former governor.

“I was one of the people who had opposed them and when Kuel [Ex-governor] was removed, they came up with a list and they are now planning to eliminate those people.”

The decree does not say how much money has been mismanaged.
