The General Court Martial in Juba has adjourned the hearing in the case of an SSPDF soldier who allegedly killed three Syrians in January, in Warrap State.

The victims were working for a Lebanese construction company in Warrap State, where the accused, Yak Garang was employed to handle the security of the company and also worked as a driver.

According to SSPDF Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, Yak, a private in the army confessed to killing the three men over ill-treatment.

General Lul said Yak’s salary was at SSP 30,000, but he reportedly complained.

Speaking to journalists in Juba on Wednesday, Lul said the court heard accounts from  three witnesses, and the prosecuting team.

He said the defendant was also given an opportunity to tell his side of the case.

“He gave an account which was more or less the same like the one he gave during his first appearance that he shot dead those three people. He has confessed to having committed the crime intentionally. He said he did it deliberately because he felt he was being mistreated,” Lul said.

“So the coming day is going to be the day for justice, justice to the deceased and justice to the accused. It will be decisive, and justice will be done on the 28th.”

The court is expected to pronounce the verdict on Tuesday next week.
