The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance has welcomed the establishment of an investigation team to look into the attack on humanitarian workers in Juba in July.

On Thursday, the SSBC announced that President Salva Kiir had formed a committee to investigate the alleged incidents of murder, rape and looting of property at the Terrain Hotel complex in Juba during the recent fighting.

The victims include foreign aid workers and a local journalist, John Gatluak.

The 6-member committee is headed by the deputy minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs, Honorable Martison Oturomoi.

“I understand that there are some properties which are recovered however we welcome the decree of the President and its actually overdue and thank God that the government has actually means and measures that can check what happened and find out exactly what went wrong during that incident,” said Akuoch Ajang, Chairperson.

Witnesses of the incident in the hotel last month have told different media houses that they were man-handled.

The investigation committee, which was announced yesterday, is expected to complete its work and submit its recommendations to the president within 21 working days.
