The first part of civic education on the constitutional process will end this month, according to the National Constitution Review Commission.

The chairperson of sub-committee on civic education, James Aniceto Batikayo said the committees will then spend September reviewing work and planning the next round of public education.

“By August we would have already gone into three months period of civic education starting from June, July and August.  We started late. Next month there will be not be going to the states because it will be a month for us to review our past experiences, see the shortcomings and then draw a way forward,” Mr Batikayo told Eye Radio. He also said that by October, the second part of civic education will start. That will take about three months and will be followed next year with more consultations and the drafting process.

“In January (we will) begin full-swing public consultation. Public consultation will go also for three months or even four then we will come to begin drafting the constitution using all the opinions we collected from all these people,” he said.

The National Constitution Review Commission is charged with the formulation of the permanent constitution for South Sudan.
