China has urged the warring parties to end the conflict and form a transitional government as soon as possible.

This comes after China supported a Security Council resolution to impose sanctions on South Sudan.

The permanent representative to the UN, Liu Jieyi, said the sanctions will create pressure for an early breakthrough in the peace talks.

“China sincerely hopes that the two negotiating parties will as soon as possible reach a compromise on the pending issues in order to take a crucial step in restoring peace and stability to South Sudan, as it is in the fundamental and long-term interest of the country and people of South Sudan,” he said.

Mr. Liu said compromise between the government and the SPLM in Opposition will restore peace and stability.
