CES govt on alert amid reported return of herders

Central Equatoria government on Thursday discussed ways to curb the looming return of cattle keepers, including Ambororo nomads who are said to have entered the state.

The state Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony described the situation as a serious threat to farmers and their livelihoods in the region.

Information Minister Andruga Mabe said Ambororo nomads from Chad and Central African Republic have entered the state for the first time in a decade.

Mabe said the government is considering ways to address the issue from its onset to avoid civilians’ conflict.

“His excellency the governor emphasized on the looming issue of cattle keepers returning to disturb the peace of agrarian communities in the agricultural zones of the state,” Mabe said in a statement to the media.

“This time, the cattle keepers are being accompanied by Ambororo and so on. They are already posing threat to this agricultural season, and the state government is putting mechanism on how to curb this at the onset so that it does not disturb the tranquility among farmers throughout the state.”
