Cecilia Oba’s family expresses concern over her case

The family of the late mayoress of Yei Municipality says two suspects who were arrested over the killing have been released.

The body of Cecilia Oba was found at a construction site in Jebel Kujur in Juba in November 2014.

Her daughter, Fibi Kojo, says those released are still under investigation while a search is ongoing for a third suspect.

“I’m very disappointed because many people are asking me: ‘What is happening; what is the government doing. I am very disappointed,” Ms Kojo said.

Women activists in Yei River County have been calling upon the ministry of Justice to speed up the investigations.

The activists now say they see the delay as a lack of justice for women in the society.

“As women, we need to know the reasons behind the killing of the late,” said Roseline Nadia, chairperson for Yei Women Association.

Efforts to reach the ministry of justice for comments have not been successful.
