The Catholic Diocese of Malakal has evacuated all its clerics to Juba due to security concerns in Upper Nile state.

Members of the Diocese from the entire parish in Malakal have been told to leave the town.

One of the priests, Father Johnson Obaj, told the Sundown Program that the decision was made because of frequent clashes between government and SPLM/A-in Opposition forces in the state.

“The main reason as you know –Malakal has been destroyed completely, that is why we are asked by the Archbishop to pullout,” said Father Obaj.

“All of us; the sisters and the priests have been told to leave because there is nothing at all in Malakal.”

Father Obaj said the clergies will stay in Juba until the security situation in Malakal improves.
