Calm has returned to Upper Nile and Western Bahr el Ghazal States after government and the opposition forces clashed in the area on Saturday, SPLA spokesperson has said.

Col Philip Aguer said the fighting erupted in Renk and Nasir counties of Upper Nile and Raja county of Western Bahr El Ghazal State in the afternoon hours.

“The SPLA crossed the river to defend Renk town from the indiscriminate shelling and then they surrounded the western bank to provide security for civilians in Renk Town, and they repulsed the attack on Nassir and the one of Raja,” Col Aguer told Eye Radio.

He added that they do not have the actual number of casualties of the fighting.

Eye radio could not reach the SPLA/M-In opposition for comment.
