Calm in Gogrial West after 5 killed in clashes over grazing land

Warrap State Information Minister said calm has returned to Gogrial West County after the killing of five people during two days of communal fighting in the area.

William Wol Mayom said the state government has deployed SSPDF troops from Division 11 following the violence among armed youth.

Mayom said the fighting between gunmen of Kuc and Aguok communities – was triggered by a dispute over a grazing land.

The fighting which killed five people and injured ten others prevailed from Thursday to Friday until the government forces intervened.

“On December 7th and 8th, clashes were renewed between Mathiang of Kuc community and Mouny-Diit of Aquak community of Gogrial West County, and in those clashes, five people reported killed and ten people wounded from both sides,” he said.

Mayom Warrap Governor Kuol Muor Muor has directed the national army to stop any further attack.

In an interview with Eye Radio, Mayom said the situation is now calm.

“The governor of Warrap State H.E Kuol Muor Muor directed Division 11 and intervention is made so far, and as I’m speaking the situation is normal.”

“There is a huge deployment made on the side of Muonyjang, and strong directives was given to our SSPDF forces, particularly Division 11, to stop completely the further attack.”
