Two people died on Monday after a dispute over bride wealth payments turned violent in Jur River County, Western Bahr El Ghazal State.

One of the victims was speared in the chest after he confronted his son-in-law to pay the balance of bride pride.

“The next victim was killed after the family of the dead man sought revenge,” Derik Uya Alfred, state minister of information told Eye Radio.

Mr. Uya said the authorities have sent police reinforcements to the area to avoid more retaliation from the families of the deceased.

He said the commissioner of Jur River County has managed to calm the situation.
