Security situation in Bentiu has been calm in the last two days after clashes were reported in the area early this week, the United Nations has said.

Media reports suggest that more than 70 civilians were killed in the fight that erupted on Monday.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Mission in South Sudan, Joseph Contreras says UN personnel in the area have not reported any clashes recently.

He says there has been a ‘steady flow’ of internally displaced people to their camps since the fighting started.

“Ranks of internally displaced persons at that particular location have been going for some time,” Mr Contreras told Eye Radio.

Parties to the conflict could not be reached for comments.
