The recent resolutions issued during the conference of the SPLM –In Opposition in Pagak will not help bring lasting peace to the country, the Office of the President has reacted.

In the conference, the SPLM-In Opposition condemned and declared the extension of the term of office of the Presidency and that of the South Sudan Legislative Assembly as unconstitutional.

It also called for release of the report of an African Union enquiry into the current conflict.

The government says its release would have a negative contribution to the peace process.

The Press Secretary in the office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny spoke to the media in Juba today.

“While our priorities are geared towards negotiating peace settlement and to return the country into normalcy, the recent Pagak resolutions where mere war rhetoric and therefore fall short of what was expected from the rebel’s side in search for peaceful solution of the political crisis in South Sudan,” Mr Ateny stressed.

He added that people of South Sudan deserved better atmosphere to exercise their rights to vote for their leaders.
