Aweil South County in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal State has received a prison building, handed over by UNMISS as one of the mission’s Quick Impact Projects (QIPs).

The project funded by UNMISS is estimated to have cost 50,000 US dollars.

It is one of the quick impact projects underscored in 2022-2023 development programs.

The head of UNMISS in Aweil, Alfred Zulu says, the purpose of constructing the prison facility is to improve the conditions of the inmates.

Zulu says this because many of them were often bitten by scorpions as they sat under trees.

“The purpose of constructing this facility is because over the years we use to see the inmates seating under the trees and some of them were seating in the places of scorpions and many others have been bitten, so we decided to build this facility and hand it over to the Northern Bahr el Ghazal government,” said Zulu.

For his part, the Commissioner of Aweil South County Luka Thel Thel thanked UNMISS for the support describing a job well done.

“I would like to thank the UNMISS for the work well-done to Aweil South County, is at community service work as we witnessed today, and we are now opening the new prison service,” said Thel Thel.
