A 19-year-old girl on Tuesday filed a civil case in Aweil East County, Western Bahr el-Ghazal for forcing her to marry against her will.

This is according to Captain Guot Guot Akol state police spokesperson.

Akol says the young girl got aid and consultation from the state minister of gender.

He added that the police are looking into the matter and the case will be referred to the civil court.

Akol told Eye Radio that Abuk is practicing her constitutional rights.

“19-year-old girl named Abuk Michael Dut has taken legal measures against her father for forcing her into forced marriage as we all know child and forced marriage are criminalized by law,” said Capt. Akol.

“She has no social relationships with this man that is the reason she says no,
