Aid workers assess humanitarian situation in Mundri

Author : | Published: Tuesday, October 27, 2015

A team of aid workers is visiting Mundri East, where 8 people starved to death at a camp this month, to assess the humanitarian situation.

The hunger victims died at an internally displaced people’s camp at the foot of a hill more than a week ago.

The thousands of civilians fled a conflict between local vigilante group and the SPLA in the area.

Commissioner of Mundri East County John Henry says the team is headed by an official from the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

“They’re going to assess the humanitarian crisis that has happened and then find out how to rescue the affected communities.”

Last week, the relief and rehabilitation commission in the county said the situation was worsening.

The coordinator for the commission, Sunday Batista William, called for a quick intervention.
