African civil society representatives are expected to meet in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Monday to discuss the situation in South Sudan.

The event intends to urge AU policymakers to follow through on their commitments and keep South Sudan a top priority at the upcoming summit and throughout 2016.

The forum is being organized by Oxfam International.

In a statement to the media, the organization says African countries with similar histories of transition will analyze the expected outcomes of the AU Summit. They include Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa.

“Civil society actors and other regional stakeholders will share experiences from their countries and make recommendations on key priorities related to South Sudan which need to be urgently addressed at the upcoming African Union summit,” partly read the statement.

Recommendations will be made on AU’s need to take next steps related to peace, justice, and accountability.

South Sudan has been affected by the 2-year conflict, with thousands killed and about 2 million people displaced.

The violence which erupted in December 2013 has also left half of the population vulnerable to starvation and diseases.
