An activist has raised concern over reports of a looming revenge attack targeting the Malakal Protection of Civilians Site by the White Army in Upper Nile State.

Edmond Yakani, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization alleged the White Army has been carrying out armed mobilization intended to raid Malakal PoC, while the former Agwelek forces set up defences in the area.

He warned against any outbreak of violence in the area saying this can result in grave human rights violations.

Yakani urged the White army and Agwelek forces to abstain from inter-communal violence.

He also called on the authorities and the UN Mission in South Sudan to act and avert the situation.

“Our early warning for a few days shows us that White Army is seriously mobilizing to carry out a possible deadly revenge attack following the deadly incident in Malakal IDP’s camp which we seriously condemned the incident in IDP’s camp,” said Yakani.

“Indicators are showing us that some movement of white army shows there is a serious move toward Malakal town or Malakal IDP’s camp for a revenge attack, this has been observed in Dolib.”

“We have seen some movement in Shirika Ayat, but also we have seen a similar move within the Agwelek forces as they prepare themselves to respond to any possible revenge attack that may be carried out,” he said.

“I want to take this opportunity to call upon at the state and national level in collaboration with UNMISS to ensure the protection of civilians in Malakal IDP’s camp is taken seriously.”
