The chairman of the National Elections Commission says no elections will be conducted in Abyei in June because of its disputed status.

Professor Abednego Akok says the president will appoint Members of Parliament to represent Abyei in the national assembly.

“At the moment, they [Ngok Dinka] are to be represented in the assembly through appointment by the President of the Republic of South Sudan,” Prof Akok stated.

The chairman was speaking after the swearing-in of the members of the states’ election committees yesterday.
