The Abyei Special Administrative Area has declared every Friday a public holiday dedicated to agricultural activities during the rainy season.

In a circular issued by the Secretariat General, the administration said the measure will take effect from June 19 and continue until September 18, 2026.

According to the directive, the agricultural holidays are meant to encourage residents, government institutions, development partners, the private sector, and the wider community to take part in farming during the planting season.

The circular applies to government departments, counties, commissions, United Nations agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations, as well as private institutions operating in Abyei.

The administration said normal Friday work schedules are expected to resume on September 25 after the end of the agricultural period.

The move comes as communities across the country take advantage of the rainy season to increase food production and strengthen household livelihoods.
