The South Sudan Embassy in Kampala has dismissed reports circulating on social media that it is closing its operations in Uganda.

In an official clarification, the Embassy said it remains fully operational and continues to carry out its diplomatic and consular responsibilities.

The Embassy says the clarification follows reports circulating on social media platforms, particularly 64 Tribes and South Sudan Cable, alleging that the mission was closing its operations in Kampala.

The Embassy dismissed the reports, saying, “The reports are false, misleading, and without any factual basis.”

The mission says it continues to discharge its diplomatic and consular responsibilities in accordance with its mandate and the established diplomatic relations between South Sudan and Uganda.

The Embassy has also urged the public and the media to exercise due diligence and rely on official communications when reporting on matters concerning the mission.

It further cautioned against unverified information and speculation, saying, “Unverified information and speculation should not be treated as a position of the Embassy.”

The Embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and strengthening bilateral relations between South Sudan and Uganda.

It expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and support of the government and people of Uganda, while reaffirming what it described as its commitment to strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries.

The clarification was issued by the Embassy’s Media Department in Kampala on August 17, 2026.
