Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has tabled a memo for an 18-point-89 million U.S.-dollar Emergency and Ambulance Initiative and Integrated Livestock Project, with funding expected from Qatar, Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the African Development Bank.

Gabriel Deng Yel, the State Information Minister said the memo was presented by the Minister of Health during an extraordinary council meeting chaired by Charles Madut Akol Deng .

“This project memo represents strategic investment in life-saving emergencies, strengthen ambulance systems, build trained professionals, and improve hospital emergency preparedness,” he said.

The proposed project is aimed at strengthening emergency health services, ambulance systems and hospital preparedness, while also supporting livestock development in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

He said the memo also covers livestock services, agro-industrial development, a biomedical complex and other economic aspects of the state.

“The memo also touches critical areas like livestock services, agro-industrial, biomedical complex, and economic aspect of Northern Barrel Gazelle states. The plan was provided by Qatar, Egypt, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and African Development Bank,” he added.

The minister said the proposed project is valued at 18-point-89 million U.S. dollars, with funding expected from the four international partners.

If implemented, he said, the project would cover most rural primary health-care units, several clinics and county hospitals, particularly benefiting communities located far from major towns.

Deng said the project would also create employment opportunities for young people and provide training for 65 professionals, mainly from the health and administrative sectors.

The minister added that the integrated livestock component would benefit students with livestock-training backgrounds and provide opportunities for workers at both grassroots and professional levels.
