A young boy was shot and wounded and over 1,000 cattle were raided during an attack by suspected Misseriya gunmen in Mayom County of Unity State on Friday, a national lawmaker representing the area said.

Stephen Bol Leay told Eye Radio that nine people are still missing after the Arab Misseriya men carried out multiple attacks on the remoter parts of the area.

“The Arab of Misseriya nomads crossed the border in Mayom County in the northern part and they raided more than 1,000 heads of cattle and they wounded a small boy in that place call Nuai in the Northern Part of Mayom County,” he said.

According to MP Bol, the gunmen, who he describe as ethnic Arab nomads raided more than one thousand heads of cattle.

On a separate note, the lawmaker said the state is badly affected by the four years of flooding and that the people are in dire need of food and other basic necessities.

He is calling on humanitarian organizations to support the flood survivors in Mayom County with relief items.

‘The area now is devastating, people are hungry, and there’s no food and there’s clean drinking water. At this juncture am urging the well-wishers and international community to quickly intervene in that situation.”

Mayom County borders Abiemnhom County to the north, Rubkona County to the east, and Koch County to the Southeast.

It also borders Warrap State to the West.
