Malnutrition cases go up in Unity

Author : | Published: Thursday, August 7, 2014

There is an increase in malnutrition cases among the children in UN camps in Bentiu due to poor feeding, Unity State authorities say.

The state Minister of Information, Peter Makuth, told Eye Radio Dawn’s program this morning that the children are not getting enough food.

“Children don’t get milk and other foods that they are supposed to get as usual to build up their bodies,” said Mr Makuth.

“We have cases of Malnutrition among children, but till now we don’t have correct statistics for that.”

He said the state authorities don’t have accurate statistics because the children are in UN protection camps.

Early this week, UNICEF in a report said that more than 900,000 children in the country are malnourished and 58% of them are in Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile states.
