Suspected killer of three siblings identified as a relative

Authors: Woja Emmanuel | Daniel Danis | Published: Monday, August 10, 2020

Babu Emmanuel Lokiri has been identified as the man responsible for last week’s murder of three siblings in Juba.

Police say they have enough evidence to conclude that Babu Emmanuel is indeed the killer of the children who were just 9, 7, and 4 years old at the time of their gruesome murder in Rock city residential area.

Mr. Babu who is believed to be 24 years-old is said to be a close relative of the victims.

The Inspector-General Police says the suspect is now in police custody.

Babu Emmanuel is a fourth-year student at the University of Juba in the School of Medicine.

He was among 16 people arrested last week in connection with the killing of Naomi Edward, Blessing Edward and Nor Edward.

Preliminary police reports showed that the children were slaughtered at 4:30 pm by the suspect.

Babu allegedly committed the heinous act in the absence of the parents. The mother of the deceased children had reportedly gone to the market.

Addressing the media this afternoon, the Inspector-General of Police, General Majak Akech said the suspect will be arraigned in court to answer for the crime.

“…he [Babu] legally confessed and we have all the evidence together with the tools used for the killing,” said Gen. Akech.

He, however, could not explain what reasons the suspect gave for killing the little children, leaving it for the courts to determine the motive:

“We have identified the person responsible for the killing of the three little children in Rock City and he is now in police custody. He legally confessed to the killings, and we have all the evidence, including the tools he used to commit the crime. The killer is called Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, he is a South Sudanese from Kajo-Keji from the same tribe of Kuku and he a close relative of the family. He will have to explain the reasons for killing the children to the court because this is just the beginning. We made a lot of efforts to identify the person who committed this very shocking crime which angered our people, and we want to say sorry to our people for this unfortunate incident meted on the little children who are angels. They didn’t deserve to be killed, but the responsible person has been identified.”
