Oil production in Upper Nile State is flowing normally despite recent clashes in the capital Malakal between government forces and forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar, an official has said.

Yesterday, clashes erupted in Malakal town between government forces and forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar.

The Press Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum, Mining and Industry, Nicodemus Ajak Bior, told Eye Radio that oil production has not been hampered by the fighting.

“The normal production level is still the same,” said Mr Ajak. “Nothing has changed and so all our operations are just there.”

However, he said there is a reduction in oil production due to technical problems.

“The reduction in oil production is not because there is an attack…it is just because of a technical issue, not anything related to what is going on right now in Malakal.”
