The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission says it is worried about the increase in violence across the country.

The concern was raised by the JMEC Deputy Chairperson, Lt General Augostino Njoroge, while addressing a visiting delegation from the African Union, which arrived in Juba on Friday.

Lt General Augostino Njoroge did not mention any specific areas, but there have been reports of violence in most parts of the Equatoria region and other parts of the country.

“Insecurity around the country is having a profound impact on the lives of ordinary South Sudanese. Human Rights are being compromised, livelihoods are destabilized, the economy is weakened and people are left scared and anxious,” the JMEC Deputy Chief said in a statement.

He strongly noted that human rights are being compromised, livelihoods are destabilized, the economy is weakened and people are scared and anxious.

Lt. General Njoroge says such violations of the ceasefire are deeply regrettable.

“We have called for an immediate ceasefire by all Parties and armed groups, full inclusivity and representation within the political process, an unhindered response to the humanitarian situation, and the expeditious deployment of the Regional Protection Force,” he continued.

Lt. General Njoroge also called for speedy deployment of the Regional Protection Force.

The Deputy Chairman urged all stakeholders to the peace agreement to make every diplomatic effort to stop all hostilities and restore the ceasefire with immediate effect for implementation of the agreement to resume.
