Terekeka County in Central Equatoria State has hired 70 teachers from Uganda to teach in its primary and secondary schools.

The commissioner of the county, Jacob Gore, says the recruitment was done to increase the number of qualified teachers in a bid to improve the quality of education.

“It is the county authority and the community [which] came up with the issue of bringing some teachers from our neighboring countries like Uganda,” Mr Gore told Eye Radio.

A report by the Ministry of Education in 2012 said teachers were leaving the profession due to low pay.
