UN chief lauds SPLM reunification deal

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the agreement on the reunification of the SPLM factions.

The SPLM, the SPLM in Opposition and the Former Detainees agreed in Arusha, Tanzania on Wednesday to reunite and review the contentious issues in their party constitution.

In a statement issued by his spokesman in New York, Ban Ki Moon urged the factions to implement the Arusha deal along with the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

Mr Ban also urged the SPLM in Opposition and the government to end the13-month-conflict through the on-going negotiations mediated by IGAD.

The next round of the peace talks is expected to resume this week in Addis Ababa.
