South Sudan protests alleged erroneous reporting by Uganda TV

The Embassy of South Sudan in Kampala is demanding an apology from an Uganda-based Television network after the channel refers to the conflict in the Republic of Sudan as “South Sudan fighting.”

In a press release issued on Monday, the embassy said it is appalled by the footage script aired on NTV- Uganda television station on 16Th April 2023.

“The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan accredited to the Republic of Uganda is appalled by the footage aired live on NTV Uganda on April 16, 2023, 24 hours news in which the station referred to the conflict in Sudan as ” South Sudan fighting.”

According to the embassy, NTV Uganda is an immediate neighbor of South Sudan and should have a better knowledge of the East African region.

The embassy warned that any misconception about the conflict in Sudan as South Sudan fighting creates panic among citizens of the East African Community and damages the image and economy of South Sudan.

It also undermines the achievements made in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, the statement reads.

“The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan has written to NTV – Uganda to demand an apology and to reassure investors and Ugandans that South Sudan is safe.”

According to the press release, the uncalled conflict in the Republic of Sudan between the Sudan Armed Forces “SAF” and the Rapid Support Forces “RSF” is a concern of the African Union, the IGAD, and the Republic of South Sudan as its threatening regional peace and stability.

The embassy called on NTV to adhere to the ethics of good Journalism by providing its viewers with credible information.
