The Juvenile Court in Juba on Monday convicted a young man to 7 years imprisonment for defiling a school girl aged 14 years.

Hassoun Khamis Babiker, 19, committed the crime in Hai Mayo residential area in September 2022.

Khamis was accused of defilement by the girl’s father.

The schoolgirl told the court she was sexually abused several times by the convict.

Upon being arranged in the court, the convict made a judicial confession of his crime.

He said he sexually abused the girl after she told him she is 18 years.

After his lawyer failed to convince the court, Judge Andrew Joshua Lado found Khamis guilty of violating section 247 of the South Sudan 2008 Penal Act.

The court also ordered the convict to pay 800,000 as compensation to the survivor.

“You are here sentenced to imprisonment for 7 years effective from today the 17th of April 2023 according to section 247 of the South Sudan 2008 Penal Act,” Lado read the verdict.

Either parties have been reminded of the right to appeal the judgement within 15 days starting from April 17, 2023.

According to Section 247 of the Penal Code, whosoever has sexual intercourse or carnal intercourse with another person, against his or her will or without his or her consent, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years and may also be liable to a fine.
