More than 790 students from Jonglei and Unity States are sitting the South Sudan Secondary School Examination in Juba.

The candidates could not sit for the exams in their home states due to the ongoing conflict.

Officials said some of the candidates were flown to Juba from Bor and Pibor.

“We hired a plane to transport the students form Bor; we have 82 students from Pibor secondary school who are sitting today in Juba in a center we selected,” Tut Kong Nyang, Jonglei State Minister of Education, confirmed.

Unity State Minister of Education, Nger Bangot, says 179 students from the state are sitting the exams in IDP camps and UN bases in Juba.

“Students that are siting now are divided into two, some are in Juba and others are in Unity State in 3 Counties, in 5 centers,” he said.

In Juba in IDPs camp in Tongpiny, there are 91 IDP-students.

“In Juba Girls secondary school, we have a center with 44 students. In UN house in Juba, we have 44 students. The total number is 539 students.”

The students sat for their first papers today. The candidates will tackle the last paper on July 14.
