The outgoing Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in South Sudan has started a farewell visit to the neighboring countries before she leaves the country next month.

The spokesperson of the United Nations Mission, Ariane Quentier, says Madam Johnson visited Khartoum early this week.

She said the UNMISS chief went to Khartoum to thank the government of Sudan for supporting South Sudan during this crisis.

Ariane Quentier told Eye Radio that Madam Johnson will also visit Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda soon.

Madam Johnson has been in the region for more than two years as Special Representative of the Secretary-General.

“South Sudan has been a regional issue; she visiting these countries to say good bye to them,” said Ms Quentier.

“She has been working very closely with all the partners and countries around in the region.”

Last month, Madam Johnson announced that she would leave South Sudan on the 8th of July at the end of her three-year mandate.

Madam Johnson said she had consulted with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, and her decision to leave South Sudan was approved.
