six people were killed and nine others wounded in a communal clash in the capital Rumbek this morning, the Security Advisor in Lakes State, Marial Amuom, has said.

The clashes took place at a locality known as Abieiajak village within Rumbek Central County.

Mr Amuom says more than 50 armed youth from a neighboring community attacked the area in revenge for a previous fighting in their own village.

“They killed four people from that side and seven wounded, and from the side of the attackers, two people were killed and two others injured,” Mr Amuom said.

He says some huts were burned during the fighting. The clashes follow a similar incident in Chueichok yesterday, although no casualty figures were established.

Mr Marial says most of the civilians in the state are armed, making it difficult to end revenge attacks.
