The National Legislative Assembly

The National Legislative Assembly has announced that three of its MPs have lost their membership due to absenteeism from many sittings.

This brings to 26 the number of MPs who have lost their positions due to absence from duty since the outbreak of the conflict in 2013.

The three who lost their positions this week are Mathew Mathiang Deng, Martha Martin and Henry Hillary Duar, who are accused of absence from 12 sittings.

The Chairperson of Information at the national parliament, Oliver Mori, said the move is in accordance with the Assembly Business Conduct.

“Section 27 (10)….reads, if a member is absent without prior permission or acceptable reason…for successive 12 sittings, he or she shall lose the membership,” Hon Mori read out the regulation.

Some of the 26 members have joined the SPLM in Opposition.
