South Sudan's 10 States and 3 Administrative Areas

At least 18 trucks from Juba loaded with commercial goods have arrived in the Pibor Administrative Area after nearly three months of scarcity.

This according to the Minister of local government in the area.

Peter Simon says the trucks are loaded with sugar, oil, maize flour, medicine, among others.

There was a shortage of goods in the market across the Pibor Administrative Area.

Last week, authorities there called for urgent humanitarian assistance as insecurity made roads inaccessible for the flow of food items.

They also said armed youths along the main roads leading to the area interrupted the work of humanitarian agencies supplying food aid to the locals.

According to Peter Simon, Pibor was inaccessible by road from Bor or Juba until Sunday.

“A number of trucks reached the area from Juba via Sahara Roads. This road brings the merchants closer to Juba and Pibor to transport goods. It is faster and closer than Bor Road and Kapoeta Road,” Simon said.

“We also appreciate the government’s role in providing security for the convoy all the way to Pibor.”
