Jonglei governor has asked the chairperson of the state civil society network who fled months ago for fear of his life to return home.

Bol Deng Bol  fled from Bor after he was allegedly accused of masterminding protests that saw civil servants took the streets to demand their salary arrears in June and July.

In a letter issued early this week, and obtained by Eye Radio’s news room, governor Mahjoub Biel Turuk guaranteed Bol Deng Bol of his safety.

Governor Biel’s move followed what he described as his productive meeting with Kuch Isaiah, the Secretary General of the Jonglei Civil Society Network.

According to the governor, his leadership seeks to strengthening peace and collaboration among the communities.

“As the governor of Jonglei State, I want to extend my sincere invitation for you to return to our state, I understand the concerns that led for your departure.

“I assure you that we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all our citizen”, he said.

In his response, the chairperson of Jonglei Civil society network Bol Deng Bol confirmed being asked to return home and accepted the call.

“I was asked to return to Jonglei State and resume my work there with an assurance of a safe stay. Well, I accept this assurance and will return as soon as possible,” said activist Bol.

Bol called on the incumbent Government of Jonglei State to give room to civil society and media actors in particular to exercise their mandates, rights and freedom as enshrined in both national and international legal frameworks.
