Why UNHAS suspended Kapoeta flights

Author : | Published: Friday, August 19, 2016

The United Nations Humanitarian Air Services says it has temporarily suspended all flights to Kapoeta due to the poor condition of the airstrip.

UNHAS booking officer, James Kenyi, says the move has been taken to ensure the safety of passengers.

He said they will only resume once the airstrip is repaired.

“It’s not that we are refusing to deliver services there, but we are thinking of the safety of the people that we give services to,” Mr Kenyi said.

Meanwhile, the minister of physical infrastructure in Namurnyang state, Morris Kaunda says they will commence the airstrip maintenance tomorrow to facilitate flight to land in Kapoeta town.

He said the runways were destroyed by heavy rains.

Mr Kaunda says all flights will be suspended in Kapoeta until the airstrip is repaired.
