Top officials from the United States Agency for International Development say they remain concerned with the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

They arrived in the country Tuesday.

USAID deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa, Linda Etim says they have dedicated nearly nine hundred million US dollars for humanitarian and development assistance for South Sudan.

“I think we are very saddened about the crisis and the fact this year we are still talking about the ongoing crisis,” said Ms Etim.

“People need to eat, people need education, and people need safety and security and those are all areas USAID still remains committed to.”

Over $720 million from the USAID goes to humanitarian assistance and at least $153 million goes to development assistance in South Sudan

The Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiative, John Mark, of USAID says they met with religious leaders to collaborate on finding ways of healing the nation.

“We are really here to listen and hear the views of the religious leadership on the challenges that are facing South Sudan and the way they can be directly involved in carrying on towards peace and reconciliation,” he said.

The two of them will also meet with government officials and civil society leaders.
