The office of Relief and Rehabilitation commission for Buma state has announced that Medicines Sans Frontiers, MSF, has resumed work in the area.

The MSF last month closed down its only facility in the area after it was looted by armed men.

The development comes after Buma state authorities announced last week that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack.

“The NGO has seen the authorities are working hard for their safety,” Ninginga OKanho, Buma state director of RRC, told a community radio. “It has even returned to the state with new staff.”

The medical charity is yet to confirm this.

Two of its workers were injured when the group of between six and ten unidentified gunmen entered the facility and stole office equipment, including phones and computers on July 13.

MSF is the only organization providing  specialized health care services such as basic surgery in the area.

The organization’s head of mission, Marie Cleret said the return demonstrates MSF’s commitment in providing essential medical care in and around Pibor.

“MSF has been working in Pibor for more than ten years bringing much needed medical care to the population,” Marie said.

A statement received by Eye Radio noted that a primary healthcare centre kept on operating in Pibor despite the attack.

“Although we reduced our team following the compound intrusion which took place on July 13, the primary healthcare centre kept operating normally, thanks to the dedicated team we have on the ground. The full team went back to Pibor after one week.” says Marie Cleret, MSF head of mission

The MSF clinic in Pibor is a 37-bed medical facility where the charity manages the outpatient department, the inpatient ward, the maternity ward and the laboratory, according to the charity.
