Marsland suspends flights: 30 South Sudanese may lose jobs.

Over thirty South Sudanese will lose their jobs within three days, if Marsland airline fails to secure hard currency to continue its operations.

Marsland is a Sudanese private aviation company, operating between Juba and Khartoum.

The Managing Director of Marsland aviation in South Sudan, Sabir Ater, says they will be forced to suspend their flights on the 15th November due to high landing fees in Khartoum.

“Because of the financial crisis and economic sanctions that is facing Khartoum; we will suspend our operations because we found ourselves in the situation that the cost of the trips is very high.

“For example, the landing fee is very high and it’s in form of dollars; the landing fee in Khartoum is $5,000 and the companies don’t have access to dollars at the normal price.”

Mr. Ater said buying fuel to facilitate the flights has also become extremely expensive for the airline.

Marsland Aviation Company was established in 2001, and has Jet Aircraft for flights between Sudan and South Sudan.
