Gok schools closed over violence

Six schools have been closed down in Gok state following communal fighting over the weekend, the minister of education has announced.

Nine people were killed and 15 others wounded in the Saturday fighting in Abiriu County.

The affected schools include Cueibet Girls’ Primary School, Cueibet Secondary School in Cueibet.

Others include Agangrial Primary School in Ngap County.

“We are accessing the situation. If it is OK, if there is no indication of threat, then we shall reopen the schools,” said Chol Majuec.

On Sunday, Abiriu County Commissioner, Bol Madol, told Eye Radio the communities fought in revenge of other past conflicts.
