The South Sudan national football team has earned its first win in international competition, thrashing Equitorial Guinea 1-0 in a thrilling clash in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier at Juba stadium on Saturday.

It was in the 52nd minute that Atak Lual converted a ground level cross from right winger Achuil Akuei to put their four-year old country into the second place on the table in Group C.

Thousands of cheering crowd sprang to their feet to celebrate their first breakthrough in international football.

The squad resisted fierce attempts from their rivals to equalize, with the goalkeeper Captain Juma Jenaru spotting and getting hold of the ball every time the opponents try to get it into the net.

This is the first competitive victory since joining the international football in 2012.

In March, South Sudan will play with Benin.

But next month, the national team will face Maurtania for the qualifications of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
