Western Equatoria State has approved 24,000 pounds to assist internally displaced girls who have joined Yabongo Secondary School in Yambio.

The 50 girls came from Mundri West and Maridi Counties, where scores were killed in separate conflicts in May.

“You know…..the government of Western Equatoria is promoting Education, so the council graciously accepted to approve 24,000 pounds to help purchase food items for the girls,” said Pia Philip, state Minister of Education.

In Mundri West, 18 people were killed in a random shooting that followed the killing of the executive director.

In Maridi, three people were killed in a clash between local youth and cattle keepers.

The girls were among many civilians who fled the conflicts.
