Eight of the 13 activists who arrested in Wau early this week have been released.

Four of the activist detained on Saturday, while the nine were arrested on Monday.

They represent eight of the organizations who allegedly signed the petition.

“These eight organizations were released because they have disowned the petition, saying that they are not part of it,” reported Eye Radio’s Stringer Deng Dimo.

“They say their logos were only put on the petition by the other civil society organizations.”

The other activists are under investigation.

The release of the 8 activists comes after a regional human rights body, the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders, and CEPO, urged authorities in Western Bahr Al Ghazal to release the civil society activists who were arrested early this week.
