The deputy governor of Wau State, Andrea Dominic, has been arrested.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, says Mr Andrea was arrested after a controversy over the custody of members of the SPLM in Opposition who were wounded in a clash with the SPLA in the state yesterday.

“The wounded of IO were brought to Wau hospital by some citizens. From there, the army got information that the wounded people from IO were at the hospital. The army went to the hospital and moved them to the army hospital,” Mr Makuei explained.

“But the deputy governor went to the army hospital and brought the wounded people from the IO to the Wau hospital again.

“Again, the army went and took the wounded people from Wau hospital to the army hospital and it’s became an argument.”

It is not clear how many were killed or wounded in the fighting.

Officials in the state reported that the gunfire broke out in the town after gunmen shot two girls dead.

The motive behind the killing of the girls is also not known.
