One of the eminent persons at the peace talks in Addis Ababa is urging the warring parties to strike a deal in order to end the conflict.

Professor Moses Machar Kacual, former Vice President of Sudan and one of the two South Sudanese Eminent Persons invited by IGAD to the peace talks, says the government and the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition should commit themselves to peace, and think about the future of South Sudan.

“Whatever has happened has happened; we expect our brothers now to think of the future of the rest who are alive and the country,” Mr Kacual told Eye Radio in Addis Ababa.

“You cannot bring back [to live] whoever must have been killed, you cannot bring that person back. The question is the rest who are alive what do we do for them?”

Today negotiations continue at the level of the leadership committee composed of twelve delegates from the government, the SPLM-SPLA In Opposition and the former political detainees.

The discussions this morning focused on the scope of ceasefire as part of the permanent security arrangements during the transitional period.
