VP Taban Deng Gai cuts ribbon to inaugurate Nimule weighbridge. (-)
Vice President Taban Deng Gai officially commissioned the Nimule weighbridge on Wednesday to regulate the loading of heavy trucks using the Juba-Nimule Road.
The weighbridge – a large scale that measures the weight of a vehicle and its contents – is considered vital for mitigating ongoing road damage caused by overloaded vehicles.
The facility’s manager, Eng. Ohisa Charles said it will have significant impact on trade efficiency and economic growth. He stressed that the scale will also reduce clearance delays and contributes to a more streamlined transportation system.
The Nimule weighbridge was tested in November 2024. It features two key components: high-speed weighing and static weighing, each serving a distinct purpose in assessing vehicle compliance with load regulations.
The South Sudan Roads Authority has previously blamed the weakening of critical transportation infrastructure including the Juba Bridge and the Juba Nimule highway to absence of weighbridge.
The Regional Vehicle Load Act 2013 outlines that an overloaded vehicle shall be detained without a charge by the national roads authority for the period prescribed in the regional operation and procedures.
